Boyd Coffee Company Introduces Limited-Edition ‘Portland Public Market’ Blend

In 1903, when native Portlander James Beard was born, our grandfather, Percival Dewe Boyd, had been selling coffee from his red horse-drawn wagon for three years. During James Beard’s youth, ragtime music filled the air, new bridges spanned the Willamette River, and people flocked to the magnificent Lewis & Clark Exposition where many enjoyed Boyds Coffee.®

By the time James Beard grew up and was attending Reed College, the recently completed Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway transported visitors to the newly opened Multnomah Falls Lodge; Boyd Coffee Company had converted to “modern” Ford Model T trucks, selling its coffee throughout the Northwest. We will never know if the Beard household was a customer of Percival’s but it was surely possible.

Today, our family’s commitment to excellence remains unwavering and our Portland Roastery supplies freshly roasted coffee to the Northwest and beyond in the same tradition as our grandfather.
